The scores are availible today. I got a 674. I think thats pretty decent with my situation. I can only guess that my TU has to be higher with less derogs and my Experian (forget about it).

Recently. I was aproved for a store card but denied Discover (they called me) and a Cheap Long Distance Carrier.

Well 675 was a sigh of relief. I thought I was going to have to go to the shady car dealership for my next "Pre-owned Car". With a little work I can go straight to Hank Aaron BMW. (Grin)

What makes you think you can get a decent car loan if you can't get even get a cheap long distance plan?

Christine,
Looking back on that "Long Distance" plan I don't know what happened there. One major derog did drop days after the inquiry. I think Discover saw the CH7 and ran. Later this year I am buying a "used" 97-98 Honda cash. I have three years before I visit Hank Aaron BMW or Hennesay Lexus.
My Beacon reason codes pertained to the Ch7 BNKRCY, recent derogs, not enough AGE and too many inquiries.
At NEW CAR TIME the CH7 will be my ONLY Derog. That Derog will be 8 years old. By that time I will have 10 years of history. I will also have at least one store card which I didn't have (an active one). I will also have at least two installment loans paid (secured from my Credit Union). Basically I will have the supposed optimum mix of credit (per your RAISE YOUR SCORES posting).
I plan on keeping inquries low by keeping my current cards. I'll just hound them for better terms. In fact I just sent three letters to my MC/VISA banks for lower APR's. (I hate asking for stuff over the phone.) I have at least 18 months flawless high activity, never the minumum on all the accounts. I should be successful. I know people with prime APR's with Providian and Capitol One.
So I'm NOT "wishing on a star" for a decent interest rate I'm going to "work for it."

I sure think it's WEIRD that long distance services even run your credit. I remember when they'd send me $25 to $50 checks just to switch.

It sounds like you have a good plan. Hope it'll work out that way!

Shouldn't your score be higher with such an amount of time since the ch7? did you write and challenge any derogs after the 7? I have read that the scores should get you "A" credit two years after ch7 discharge--for a mortgage that is. I don't know what time limit applies for a car. I'd like to refinance my car currently at 17% and it'll be two years in September from discharge. Any suggestions? thanks

Christine,
Yeah it seems that many of them check your credit. I didn't get apporved for the low low internet company but I did get approved for Sprint. I should have never tried that discount company. Bad judgement on my part.

Senator,
My reports aren't squeeky clean but I've disputed all that was truely wrong. The other stuff will all come off 1/2003. Thats fine because it's right before I start on my Life 2.0.(LOL) I graduate 5/2003. I think "A" credit two years after bankruptcy refers to a "possibility" for a mortgage. Comparing to others on message boards 675 seems to be damn good. People with recent lates are getting scores way lower than that.
I'm not sure about the Auto loan. I saved all that money the Chapter 7 allowed me to save to buy my Acura cash. She' old now but I got almost enough to buy a late model Civic.
The best you could do I guess is fork up the $12 and get your score. Then check your reason codes and work from there.

On the long distance thread above, I switched from AT&T to MCI a year or 2 ago after signing up for a promotion through my frequent flier program. They never ran my credit. AT&T runs my credit every month under account review. Even though I don't even have an account with them anymore. Annoying. They do send me the checks Christine talks about. My scores are not that great. . .but was never late with them in 5 years. Good payment history with the residential lines mean boo to them when it comes to getting a cell. It seems like that should count for something but it doesn't. Who knows what these people are thinking.

AT&T runs my credit a few times a year. It's listed as an account review, even though I'm no longer a customer.

They sent me three checks last year: $40, $60 and $80.

Maurice: If you feel like making trouble, complain. The FCRA permits account reviews only on existing customers. AT&T has no permissible purpose to keep account-reviewing you if you are no longer a customer.

If you're feeling particularly evil, complain to the credit bureau. They're particularly skittish to permissible-purpose violations these days.
