MV (Mel) | Tuesday, April 10, 2001 - 09:53 pm I always just assumed that disputed items were still factored into the credit score while under investigation. Does anyone know if this is true? I ordered my score and report a few weeks ago. I then disputed 3 negatives on my report. I just reordered my score and it went up by 64 points. The only difference is that a new revolving account was added and the 3 items in dispute. Everything else is the same. Anyone know for sure? If they don't factor items under investigation, it seems you could just dispute all the negatives on your report and then apply for credit???? Anyone know the deal with this? |
suzanne (Suzannel) | Wednesday, April 11, 2001 - 05:11 am Oh my gosh.....I literally was JUST going to post this on this very same topic. I had the same experience. Got denied a Citibank card because of "excessive lates" - total of 5 lates, all over 2 years old, the worst was 1 that was 60 days late. Equifax. I pulled Equifax online and saw my score....disputed the lates online...pulled my score 2 weeks later, and it had jumped 50 points. Nothing else had changed on my report. The reason code "18" WAS third, but has now disappeared. Specific accounts are listed as being reinvestigated. |

Ann (Momof3) | Wednesday, April 11, 2001 - 08:41 am After hearing from several on this exact issue, I truly believe disputed items are not factored into the scores, which they shouldn't be. You are disputing the accuracy of an entry and it shouldn't be factored into your score until it is verfied. I am happy you got Citi accounts, just remember Citi loves to review your reports , I have 2 accounts with them and they normally review every 4-6 months and if these items remain on your reports after the disputes, rest assured they will up your rates. So I hope your items do get deleted or changed to postive status. |
Shylock (Shylock) | Thursday, April 12, 2001 - 04:54 am It looks like the take-home message is to get everything that's derogatory marked as disputed. |
Christine Baker (Admin) | Friday, April 13, 2001 - 12:11 am Keep in mind that some investigations only last a few days (3 or 4) so save that dispute for when you NEED that score. Subsequent disputes may be labeled "frivolous" and the investigation may not happen again. |
Ann (Momof3) | Friday, April 13, 2001 - 08:39 am Christine makes a great point, my last dispute with Equifax was completed in less than 6 days!! This was including the weekend!! |
