You may have heard a lot of ads for Mindspring lately. Their dial up service has been pretty good for the few weeks I had it, but I was VERY disappointed with their web hosting NON support.

The online live tech support knows NOTHING about web hosting.

They have a lot of stuff on their web site, but finding it is the challenge. I spent endless hours looking through pages, and through their web forum. The postings there indicate that I'm not the only one who's not happy with their web hosting.

I definitely can't use Mindspring for BayHouse because they do NOT offer TELNET, and apparently they don't supply error logs.

Have to say that they were VERY pleasant to deal with on the phone, although I had to wait on hold for quite a while to open the web hosting account.

Since I don't have a phone right now, and standing at a pay phone with the notebook and the modem is not really an option, I haven't called.

It's strange that they didn't respond at all to my E-mail, sent to support@mindspring.net on 10/21/99. No response was received by 10/31/99:

1) I've been having some serious problems with my web account.

Last night I spent HOURS trying to figure out why a script (that worked previously just fine) resulted in a 500.

I just tried again, and got again a server error, recommending I check the error log.

I then opened a new browser window to go to your support page, and I couldn't believe my eyes. The script ran just fine!!!! I had done absolutely NOTHING to the script.

Could you please explain what's going on?

2) I tried to get to your support page at http://help.mindspring.com/support/index.htm

and got:

The page cannot be displayed The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings.

THREE times I hit refresh until it finally loaded.

Please explain this too.

3) I looked in my directory, but couldn't find error.log. Where is it located?

Thank you,

Christine Baker

Yeah, I still wonder where the error log is located. Since I still have that account for my gold and camping site, it would be nice to know.

A copy of this posting is going to support@mindspring.net.

Hope you got answers to your questions by now, so I am not answering them for you.

Make a habbit to use Netscape instead of Internet Explorer for your own good.

Do not use Internet Explorer 5.x versions unless you want others to know what sites you added to your "My Favorites"
