When I got the mail from Internic recently advising that the request to move bayhouse.com could not be completed, I was really glad. The site was by no means ready to be moved.

So I decided to wait with the acknowledgment until I was ready.

I was shocked when I found out that the domain was moved anyway two days later. It was a real bummer, because I didn't even have the login for the new account yet!

And that was a big problem because Smarthosting.com only had my E-mail at bayhouse.com, and I couldn't receive the mail at bayhouse.com, since it was already at Smarthosting.com. I didn't even think about that until they left a VM for me clueing me in.

As I just read the Internic notification again, I realized that my former web host must have acknowledged the move. So, the technical contact apparently still controls my domain.

Internic still has very OLD address and contact info for me. It's gotten easier to change things, those scary templates they used to have changed to usable forms. But I'm afraid to change anything, who knows what can of worms I open.

I'm aware that there are various ways to set up your domain with Internic so that the domain is more secure, but it's all so damn complicated. The last thing I need is more stuff to read and try'n remember.

I don't know why they can't use a simple password like my bank and my web host and everybody else!

Oh well, they've always lived by the motto:

Why make it simple when you can confuse someone!

Below is the InterNIC mailing for the newbie web hosts that always E-mail me. :)

Enjoy the lengthy LEGALESE. I haven't read it lately, but noticed THIS little excerpt just now:

"Registrant agrees that NSI, in its sole discretion, may change or modify the Dispute
Policy, incorporated by reference herein, at any time."

Yup, just like the rest of corporate. They can do what they want whenever they want and we have no choice but to accept it all.

I am aware of a lot of people still having major problems with their domains. But please don't E-mail me, there's nothing I can do. Please post here instead.

From the end of their mail: For instructions, please refer to: "http://rs.internic.net/help/instructions.txt"

I READ YOUR INTERNIC LETTER
!!!WOW!!! EXACTLY THE KIND OF GARBAGE I WANT ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH.
PUT THE BILL IN MY MAILBOX...CUT ME OFF IF I DON,T PAY IT ON TIME...AND LEAVE ME ALONE!!!
LAST TIME I CHECKED THE ALPHABET AND ALL ITS VARIOUS COMBINATIONS BELONGED FREELY TO ALL THE PEOPLE OF THE EARTH. SO HOW HAVE A FEW STOLEN THIS RIGHT FROM US BILLIONS AND NOW TRY TO SELL IT BACK TO US WITH ALL THEIR VARIOUS LOADS OF BULL ATTACHED TO IT.
A COUPLE OF GOOD COMPUTERS IN A GOVERNMENT OFFICE COULD HANDLE THE WHOLE MESS. THIS SHOULD COST $5.OO A YEAR...AND AS FOR COPYRIGHT...IF YOU DID NOT REGISTER IT THEN I GUESS YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY THE SOMEBODY WHO DID $$$MORE$$$
DEAR GOD!!! WHAT A FILTHY GREEDY MESS THEY HAVE MADE OF SOMETHING QUITE SIMPLY.

You must submit a CONTACT modification request to Network Solutions (One of the Registrars authorized to register domains by InterNIC) to change the NOTIFY TYPE from AFTER to BEFORE. If you do not, your CONTACT profile is left as default and the default is NOTIFY AFTER completing the action, whether or not you approved it.

Also you can set the AUTH SCHEME to CRYPT-PW and choose a password. Network Solutions software currently has a bug in it queues requests with CRYPT for manual processing even though password is correct. This is good for you because you will then call Network solutions and appeal to them so they can manually run your request you submitted.

YES! Finally I don't have to deal with those awful templates anymore. Apparently a whole bunch of companies now are "registrars."

I registered a new domain at tierranet.com and got 2 years for $60. AND, I was able to change the domain name servers MYSELF and INSTANTLY. What a thrill. I can change ALL my info at their site. Works real nice. So far ....

However, I wouldn't let them host my web if it was FREE. I tried them last year and their support SUCKED!
