| | Friday, April 21, 2000 - 04:31 pm Since I'm not looking for the latest, I'm even considering buying a used machine, P2 300 mhz is just fine. Must have USB and second hard drive bay with the case AVAILABLE. If I get a new one I'm looking for a company that will 1) FedEx me a shipping box if I have a serious problem. (Hauling the original box around Alaska "just in case" is not an option) OR has service places nationwide including Fairbanks. 2) has a good warranty, including LCD, and isn't about to go out of biz. 3) has important parts (A/C adapters!) in stock. Of course, good products would be nice too .... Feel free to E-mail me at bayhouse@iname.com if you don't want to post. Thanks, Christine

| | Friday, April 21, 2000 - 04:54 pm I don't know how you feel about full sized laptops, but I tried very hard to kill my old Toshiba CDT-490 -- and couldn't. I subjected it to 140 degree weather in the high california desert, and also freezing temps in the same local. Sand, fine sand, and dirt everywhere. It was in constant use, as I was teaching class after class with it - in all kinds of places. That, and I hate touch pads, Toshiba's have the in keyboard button - it takes a few hours to get used to it, but once you are, you never want to go back. :-) Needless to say, they are a major brand, and parts and service will not be a problem. Also, most MBE's will have a suitable box you can use, and suitable packing material. Check with Toshiba about specific return policies - I have never had to return one, so it's never been an issue for me.
