Faxing is cheaper, much more reliable than the post-office, and so much faster!

I had been using jfax.com for years. I was quite happy at first, although it wasn't cheap at $12.50/month for a VM/fax number PLUS usage.

Then I read their announcement about hiring an AT&T CEO. My worst fears came true when a few months later my account was shut off. Union Bank had changed my debit card account # and forgot to clue me in.

Support at jfax didn't exist anymore. It was EXACTLY like dealing with AT&T. It's absolutely AMAZING what ONE AT&T executive can do to a previously well organized corporation.

I'm going to spare you the gruesome details and move on to the good news:

I've been using faxaway.com for a while now and haven't had a problem. There are NO monthly fees, they charge a flat rate of 11 cents/min in the US.

Faxing is as easy as completing the "to:" field in your E-mail with the fax number: 14151231234@faxaway.com

If the transmission was successful, you'll get an E-mail confirmation like this:

Subject: CONFIRM: Addtl info for dispute of $930 on 7/18/2000

Hello from Faxaway, the world's easiest E-Mail to Fax service!

CONFIRMATION OF YOUR FAX TRANSMISSION
FAX STATUS: SUCCESSFUL TO 18779037907
COUNTRY: 1-NORTH AMERICA
TRANSMISSION: 24-Aug-2000 04:56:13 GMT.
DURATION: 3.2 Minute
TOTAL COST: $0.35
YOUR FAXAWAY ACCOUNT BALANCE: $13.92.

If there was a problem with your fax, they'll e-mail you whatever the problem was.

There are probably better deals for high volume faxers, but for my 3 or 4 disputes per month, Faxaway works great.

May be corporate america is not ready for electronic faxing yet. Definitely not for sending dispute letters.

Fax machine is public property for corporate offices where a lot of junk gets faxed everyday and cleaners clean it.

Having tasted high tech corporate industry, i knew surprsing details. Like, nobody cares about a fax. Or, you have to make phone calls and bug them to have your fax read. Same thing with email. Corporate people check their intranet MS outlook email a zillion times a day and they will never check their external (internet email). Even the administrator email gets piled up upto several gigabytes and they clean every year or so!!!

May be companies that use fax machine and internet email very regularly are the small guys.. .neighborhood pizza place, coffee house, 4-5 guys shops.
