Murty Rompalli (Murty2) | Friday, September 01, 2000 - 07:44 pm "Monkey See.. Monkey do" really applies in this country. There were days I paid for sending and receiving email by UUCP. Then came hotmail...FREE. now its big company. After I became domain registrar, I sensed that $15/yr would be "fair profit" for domain registration... Guess what, now the trend is towards $0/yr. One class of businesses (like mine) want to lock up domain owners and offer packaged deals, so they give free domains. Others (the greedy class) will show on paper its $0 but actually charge $1000 or more for domain registration. Can't believe it? Go into internet consulting area (fancy term: eBusiness) So the future trend would be: FREE DOMAINS. You wont have to pay for domain names then. Naturally, it will be something like getting your own toll-free number when you sign up for long distance. But the real money making domains (non-free) will be Vanity Domains. Everyone (including kids) will be hunting for domains on the internet and registering every vague domain imaginable under the sky. For no reason. To create Domain Sale business. LIke Domain Direct, Domain Bank.. etc. PLEASE NOTE: If you did not pay yearly dues on your domain even by 1 day... your domain is snatched away in minutes by Domain Sale companies like Domain Bank etc. SECOND NOTE: If your domain registrar is Network Solutions or some other big one like Register.COM, you are inviting troubles. More Junk mail to come. More privacy robbed. Dot Com Directory. And then ultimately, you have to pay penalty for asking them not to include your domain in their Marketing Lists. |
