First of all I want to thank everyone on this forum for helping me get on the road to cleaning my credit profile. I am definitely getting good results.
I have 4 derogatory accounts that came back verified by Trans Union but were deleted by Experian and Equifax. So I sent a letter to Trans Union asking them to send me a letter informing me details of the account verification process for each of the creditor in question. They sent me a template letter informing me to contact the creditor directly since they have already verified the account.
I called Trans Union today and spoke with a CSR named Lisa who informed me that all Trans Union has to do is to provide me with Name and the address of the creditor. They do not have to give me any more information even if I request it in writing. Is this true? Does the FCRA not provide for us (Consumers) to even get information on who at the creditor verified the false information when the CRA did their verification? Legally what information does the CRA have to provide me with at the completion of their account verification?
Thanks in advance for your help.

To everybody: I moved Dan's posting over here because it's time people get used to posting new questions HERE.

Once I'm on the road I won't have time to move postings. I have only TWO choices: post or delete. Also, before I post the queued messages, I have to READ them, obviously. That takes a lot of time, which I won't have when I'm on the road. I don't want to have to read 50 posting after a few days off-line.

Now, on to Dan's question. I don't think the bureaus have to give you ANY info.

I posted not long ago that I've tried to get more info, unsuccessfully.

So, if those accounts were verified INCORRECTLY, you take the letter from TU and go straight to court and sue the creditors. All you need is the ONE written statement "verified by creditor." It does not matter when or by who.

It would be interesting to call TU as a witness, in California it used to be only $20 or so for Small Claims witnesses. That might be one way to get more info.

Although I don't have any hard evidence to back it up, I am fairly certain that I read (in several places) that they must provide you with the name and address of any creditor that reports any information to the CRA regarding your history, provided that you request it in writing. They do NOT have to provide a phone number, however.

I'll see if I can hunt down those sources.

Section 611(6)(a)(iii) states "a notice that, if requested by the consumer, a description of the procedure used to determine the accuracy and completeness of the information shall be provided to the consumer by the agency, including the business name and address of any furnisher of information contacted in connection with such information and the telephone number of such furnisher, if reasonably available". therefore, you should write to them and quote this section requesting a written description of the procedures used to verify the info. They CRA have an automated verification form they send or fax to the creditor to get the info they have. you have a right to a copy of that. Also you can write the original creditor and ask them for a written verification of the alleged debt. they have to provide it by law within a reasonable amount of time. if they dont have there information together they cant report it.
