| | Friday, February 23, 2001 - 03:50 am I have found that Capital One is a scam artist. I have a terrible fight with them over continued late fee charges. It seems that I can easily get their invoices to me within 4 days of mailing according to the post mark envelope, however, they always claimed I was late even when I mailed my payment 6 to 8 days in advance. I got fed up with this, so I closed the account. My wife is worried that I won't be able to get another credit card - that I will have a bad mark on my credit because of this action. Isn't there any governmental action out there for the protection of people. My wifes credit card bank has now just raised late fees from 29.00 to 35.00 and reduced the billing period from 25 to 21 days. What can people do about that. Sincerely, Hans P. Theuer

| | Friday, February 23, 2001 - 11:23 pm Hans, I moved your posting, hope you find it again. The other topic is only for credit reporting. You can complain to the FTC or OCC, see some of the complaints in Legal. MANY credit card issuers purposely delay the posting of payments to get the late charges. I highly recommend utilizing on-line bill payment (free at CompuBank or sign up with a bill payment company. Usually payments to banks are EFTs (electronic funds transfers) and when I send a payment with PayTrust it's debited to my account within a day or two. Nobody should rely on the postal (non)service to pay important bills because you get no proof of mailing or the credit card company delays in posting.

| | Saturday, February 24, 2001 - 05:42 am For Capital One you can also pay online through there website. It usually post 1 day later and it's debit out your account the next. Saves a stamp, an envelope, time and it's free. I do this for all my cards. It's beautiful on cards with no grace, because I pay many times before an authorization turns into a charge.
