I have 2 old charge offs both have been sold to collection agencies. One is CCB I called them and they said they have no records but they gave me the phone # and address of the collection agency that bought the account. I just disputed it with Equifax and it came back verified. I called equifax and they said they verified it with applied card systems which is owned by CCB. My question is should I send that collection agency the Validation letter? The collection agency isn't reporting on my credit report but CCB is showing a unpaidcharge off. Who can remove that item? If the collection agency bought it, can they remove the CCB item? Im really stuck in a bind? Please help?

What validation letter do you want to send to the collection agency and why?

You owe CCB, CCB verified it, so it's still on your report.

It's a common problem that ONE bad account turns into multiple accounts after collection. You're lucky the collection agency isn't reporting too.

Make sure the DATES are correct.

Usually the hand of the company the verifies accounts is not the same as the hand that tells you they no longer own the account. Keep working at this.

1) Call the people you called before and try to get from them how you can contact the people that verified this.

2) See if the people you called before will send it to you in writing that the account has been sold.

3) then contact the verification people and see if you can convince them that they do no longer hold the account. Most places will not give you a phone number but will give you either a fax number or an address.
