I activated my account with them because I definitely can't pay my bills with CompuBank, and *somebody* has to pay my bills while I'm on the road.

Any reports on their service will be greatly appreciated.

A couple of weeks ago I moved my NON credit reporting accounts to Paytrust.

Because I don't know the impact on Credit Scores, I figured I'd wait before I move those. Also, I still think it's a good idea to have your own original paper statements.

I did enter the credit accounts as billers, but I selected "NO" when I was asked whether Paytrust should notify the biller of the new Paytrust address. It's great that I don't even have to worry about the change of address.

Many major companies are already in their system, so they are easy to add. All you have to do is search and then select the proper billing address.

I had several bills paid and was impressed with the E-mails I received the very next day:

"Greetings from Paytrust!

Your VoiceStream bill has been paid.

Check 7003 from COMPUBANK for the amount of 58.02 was issued on MAY 30 2000.

Your confirmation number is 1111046."

The Bill Pay options are absolutely wonderful, a dream come true!

I scheduled my cell phone bill to be paid automatically as long as the amount isn't over $60. The biller summary screen clearly states "AutoPay if <= $60.00" so you always know what your instructions are. NICE!

You can also assign categories and print reports. Paytrust is great for people who are not good at record keeping and throw everything in a shoe box, or even worse, the round file.

If you change your mind on a scheduled future payment, you can easily change or cancel.

When a bill is received you get an E-mail notification and you can look at it on-line or print it out and schedule payment for whenever you want it paid.

You can also pay ANYBODY you care to enter as biller, I've had them pay E-bay sellers who refused to accept PayPal payments.

You can designate one or more of your checking accounts for the payments. Yup, that's the only negative, you still have to supply the dollars.

I have a few suggestions for minor improvements:

1) Option to receive your original bills via snail mail, at an additional charge.

2) Form for manually adding billers:

Single column data entry with the field name in front of the input (Currently it is below and that can be confusing.)

The fields should be in logical order, i.e. biller's address, then account number and biller phone and web site. (Currently mixed up)

Also, the "Friendly name" field should by default be the same as the name of the biller.

3) PAYING bills: The "Payment Due" displayed date should by default be the earliest possible. I don't know if you could have a bill paid on the same day, but so far all my checks went out the NEXT day, unlike Quicken's 5+ day processing time.

Summary:

Have to say that I like Paytrust much better than Quicken because of so much more flexibility and easy of use. I'll probably still import the transactions into Quicken periodically for my taxes.

Once my account showed as "suspended" and I called. The hold time was short, and I found out that the account is suspended if you try an incorrect password 3 times in a row. It was reactivated right away. That was my only problem so far.

If you don't like their service and decide to close the account, they'll even notify all your billers of the address change back to you.

What else could one ask for?

At http://www.bayhouse.com/discus/messages/4/558.html?961713849

we discussed the impact of the change of address to Paytrust and apparently it will NOT negatively affect insurance and credit ratings.

I've been rather impressed with the responsiveness of Paytrust, they promptly E-mailed me their change of address form when I inquired yesterday:

"Re: Account Number: $$CACCTNUM$$

To Whom It May Concern:

Please be advised that my billing address has changed. Please mail all future bills to this address. Please only change my billing address. Please continue to mail all other items to my home address. If your system allows only one address, make the change (Paytrust will forward anything I need to my home address). Do not adjust any service rates due to this change. Please call 877-Paytrust (877-729-8787) with any questions.

New Billing Address:

Jane Doe
C/O PAYTRUST 7599
P.O. BOX 3435
Princeton, NJ 08543-3435

Sincerely,"

I think that's pretty good!

I use my bank and does the bill paying job very good. And theres no third party like payTrust.

PayTrust is a poor idea and i wouldnt trust paytrust, unless you are a road warrior and have to.

Players like these wouldnt really serve the purpose of electronic payments which actually take same time as snail mail...4-6 weeks (official) or 5-10 days (unofficial)

Sooner or later, companies might sue paytrust for receiving your mail when you actually not live in their office! Escpecially when you dispute a charge and take the recipient to court. Did they take special permission from Fed to open people's mail? I couldnt reach them on ph, not that i expect them to pick up call right away

A better thing would be to bank with a good bank, use credit card for paying as much as you can and check your credit card statements online. By the time Paytrust gets ready to play the industry game, everyone will accept credit card and banks will offer credit card pay with check debit. Or, may be some known bank will acquire paytrust, status factory...or other bill payers.

Hah, this is pretty funny! PayTrust is the ONLY company who came through when I needed them and they did what they promised, and MORE.

My bank screwed my life up, and so did my credit card. I spent literally MANY HOURS talking to the dimwits employed by them, I think they took years off my life in the last 6 weeks.

Because you have certain dispute rights when paying with credit cards, I try to use those as much as possible when making PURCHASES. HOWEVER, the electric company doesn't accept credit cards, and it's highly unlikely that I'll have to dispute my utility bill.

Just as I was leaving AZ in late July, on Friday afternoon, I got my mail with the disconnect notice for my electric, effective the previous day. They hadn't changed the address, so I didn't get the bill until it was forwarded much later.

UNLIKE the morons I'm used to speaking to when I call my bank or credit card, the PayTrust people were terrific. Most surprising, they CARED when I explained that I was leaving for Alaska, and that the water pump wouldn't work without power, meaning my little place in the desert is subject to burning down in any little lightning fire since the neighbors won't have a drop of water to put it out.

It was really amazing. The lady confirmed the date they had sent out the address change notification, then proceeded to make a 3-way call to the electric company.

Unfortunately, the electric company informed us via a recording that they were busy and hung up on us. Several times.

Since I had other things to do, I asked the PayTrust rep to note on my account our call activity.

On Saturday, just hours before leaving, I called the electric company. I was lucky, got through to a person.

Before PayTrust, I would have told them that I sent in the address change, and that I called, and they'd say, yeah right and charge me a bunch of fees.

Instead, I advised them that PayTrust had sent the address change, and that PayTrust was on a 3-way call when they were too busy to talk to me and hung up on us.

I didn't have to argue, didn't pay a penny in fees, the call took no more than 3 minutes and now they're sending the bills to PayTrust.

Murty wrote: "Sooner or later, companies might sue paytrust for receiving your mail when you actually not live in their office!"

What???? Did I just lose the right to hire whoever I wish to pay my bills?

And "Did they take special permission from Fed to open people's mail?"

When did I lose the right to hire anyone I wish to open my mail?

Was that about the time (1999) when I lost the right to hire a company to receive my mail unless I'm rich enough to purchase or rent real estate everywhere I want to get my mail?

Well, I can imagine how legislators are working on taking those rights from me, ensuring that I'll join the rest of America in being a coporate slave like almost all Americans.

I'll be fighting all the way. I refuse to obtain a fixed address.

I just read my previous postings about Paytrust. What a bummer.

I think they're going out of business. Customer service is nonexistent. Apparently they're suffering severe cash flow problems, raising fees, and probably firing employees.

I have no other explanation.

I already tried statusfactory.com. Couldn't believe that they spam me with these obnoxious blinking ads while I'm trying to set up my account. So forget that.

I also find it extremely annoying not to have my original bills. Printing takes literally hours, and then you can't read the scans ....

And, the paper all looks the same. I want my originals and am willing to pay extra. I don't care if it's monthly or quarterly, but I want the originals.

PLEASE post any leads. How can I go to the Yukon when I have to get to a payphone every few days to call the creditors to see what I owe so I can mail a check which will no doubt be late anyway ...

Not MY idea of a vacation!

Chirstine, I use paymybills.com. I once thought they bought and merged with paytrust, but I must be thinking of another company. Anyway, I've used them for a year now and have absolutely no complaints. All my bills have arrived to the creditors within 5 days, so far (knock on wood). Some of my billers allow electronic transfers directly from paymybills so they get the payment right away. For bills that you'd rather have sent directly to you, you can still write an online check. I have all my bills sent to paymybills, except for my credit cards because I really don't want that information in their office for any employee to see. Anyway, you might want to check them out.

Mel, bad news, according to a client who's with paymybills.com they merged with Paytrust.

I was actually very happy with the way they paid my bills. Except they forgot to mention that they send out checks stating "valid for 30 days" which caused my property tax check to be sent back to Paytrust. They sent me an e-mail stating that the check was returned.

I wanted them to send a new check and that THEY pay the penalty (and find out what it is,) and someone named Amy promised to do so, but didn't.

Also, instead of SCANNING the communication from the county treasurer, they SHREDDED evertyhing.

Big headache, stupidly they always delete what you write to them, so you have no idea what they're talking about when they eventually respond. Finally they told me to call. I did, spoke with a supervisor who told me that he needed to speak with Amy, he couldn't figure out what was going on.

He PROMISED to call me back by noon the next day since I was leaving town, NEVER heard from him or anyone else.

I sent an e-mail to their legal department, no response.

Requested that they change the billing address to Statusfactory and close my account, no response.

Requested they close my account, no response. (except for their auto response, so I know they got my mails.)

Now, according to Linkshare, they owe me $50 from their affiliate program around December .... no check.

They are raising the monthly fee for the service, no more free trial,`discontinued the affiliate program, it all looks like they're out of cash.

I'm still paying some bills through Paytrust, but I finally stopped paying them. Click "file" instead of "pay."

Just paid the 2nd installment of my property taxes PLUS the 1st installment and penalties, it's been a 4+ month ordeal.

Uggh, Christine, sounds like you had a bad experience with Paytrust. I guess paymybills bought or merged with them several months ago. I have not experienced any problems YET, but knock on wood.
