Hah, that's hilarious! Talk about ingenuity.

"By Bob Sullivan, MSNBC

A scam artist last night created an exact replica of PayPal.com and used the fake site to attempt to pilfer user names and passwords from customers of the online payment system. The site, deceptively named PayPai.com, was a convincing duplicate of the real thing - but according to Network Solutions Inc., Paypai.com is registered to Birykov Inc. in South Ural, Russia."

I use PayPal and I used to like their service, but apparently they're way overextended.

LOUSY service ALERT:

1) NO phone number anywhere except in new customer area.

2) Minimum wage customer reps? Customer SERVICE doesn't exist.

3) Total confusion, disorganization and lack of any common sense in management.

Of course, as PayPal is now x.com, we know WHY they suck.

I tried to increase my spending limit by having my Compubank checking account verified. PayPal makes 2 small deposits, and then you tell them the amounts.

So I got this E-mail from PayPal:

"The two deposits that PayPal sent to your bank account as part of the bank verification process were returned to us for the following reason: Your bank does not recognize this bank account number.
Please log in at www.paypal.com and check the bank account number you entered, or you may contact customer service to verify your bank account and routing number. If they are correct, please call your bank.
If you feel this rejection is in error, you may also email PayPal Customer Service to verify this bank account at service@paypal.com."

Like I got nothing else to do, I spent the next 20 minutes looking for my bank info on PayPal, unsuccessfully, and then looking for their phone number.

EVENTUALLY I found the number in an area for NEW customers.

After some time on hold, I spoke with Kenny, who told me that the bank info was deleted as it was determined invalid. When I asked WHY they E-mailed:

"Please log in at www.paypal.com and check the bank account number you entered ... "

His response was that the computer created this automated message. I asked whether he thinks the computer is God, he really had nothing to say, it didn't bother him one bit. I would have expected an answer like "Oh, I'm so sorry, I'll report this error to .... we'll make sure to change that immediately ..." Kenny couldn't care less.

As a PayPal customer, you're apparently expected to waste your time.

He then told me that I now need to send my driver's license and statement. He sent me a new E-mail as we spoke.

"Fax the following information to 800-380-4442 or 402-592-7497:

1. Your name, email address, and the amount of the two deposits,
2. A copy of your most recent bank statement,
and
3. A copy of your driver's license.
...."

Note item #1! These people are so stupid! And again, there was NO phone number in the e-mail.

I had E-mailed CompuBank, wondering if they knew what the problem was with the deposits. They promptly responded that the last 5 digits of the account number were missing.

Can't believe I'd make a mistake like that. I seriously doubt it was MY error. And it would have been so easy to fix, if they had just let me review and correct the number as they claimed in their first mail.

THIS should be the story on the web. That russian person is pretty funny, but PayPal's current disorganization and awful service is dangerous.

I hope there's going be a better service soon, I know it can be done. I'm still VERY happy with Paytrust.

PayPal can go to hell, and I'm goin back to packing for Alaska.
