As I recently suffered a severe cash flow crisis when my engine died in Calgary and I had to buy another truck, I called on a relative who owes me.

I got her E-mail stating that she had sent a $4,000 check to Compubank. She already had deposit slips since she had been making regular payments directly to my account.

When I finally headed North from Calgary, I thought that I had plenty of cash in the bank. When I checked my mail in Fairbanks, I got a notice from CompuBank informing me that the check was a third party credit card check, not acceptable to CompuBank and returned to me.

I was stunned, and I thought it was really weird that my relative sent a 3rd party check. Yesterday I got my snail mail, and it's NOT a 3rd party check at all.

I called CompuBank and spoke with supervisor Lisa. She informed me that CompuBank doesn't accept credit card checks.

Obviously, this makes the Compubank checking account USELESS!

By the way, the check looked like any normal check. Printed address, 4 digit check number, NOWHERE did it say "ALERT! This is a credit card check!"

I asked Lisa how I would identify a check as "credit card check." She told me that CompuBank scans the check routing number, and that's how they know.

Of course that didn't answer how *I* would know. Am I supposed to buy some kind of check scanner?

I have no idea why they didn't just put a hold on the check until they collected, if collecting is a concern.

I just gave someone a check on Tuesday in Fairbanks and it had cleared my account on Thursday.

My relative had advised me that she'd be out of town and off-line for a month, so here I am, broke!

I've had numerous calls to CompuBank in Calgary since the debit card was rarely working at an ATM, I tried to dispute a charge, etc. They were fully aware that I was on the road, and that I needed that deposit.

Thanks CompuBank! You really really screwed up my vacation!

There's obviously absolutely NO point to keeping my business account at CompuBank.

Any recommendations for a bank that will accept checks (subject to holds until collected) are greatly appreciated!
