Christine Baker (Admin) | Thursday, January 18, 2001 - 01:13 am For several weeks I had been planning on disabling posting while I go to the Tucson Rock Show in early February and do some desert camping around Ajo. Can't wait to finally find some azurites. Today I noticed that it's already the 17th and I got a zillion things to do prior to Tucson. For months i've been wanting to completely rewrite the credit and FICO section. In spite of many 14 hour days at the computer, I got barely started. I'm disappointed with the Discus software developers. They have META keyword tags as part of the program, while at the same time the search engines completely ignore all postings. Talk about deception ... So I spent many hours reading about search engines, posting at Discus, and finally converting the forum to frameless. If I would make as little as 15 bucks an hour, I'd LIKE doing that kind of stuff. Well, occasionally. What a waste of time this was. I learned nothing of value. Anyway, it just occurred to me today that I can set posting to QUEUED, limit the new postings to news and updates instead of endless discussions that never result in anything. I'll post here when I go offline for a while, but will post the queued postings probably several times a day. With over 5,000 postings in the Credit Forum, it's amazing that there still are questions not addressed yet. New problems seem to be developing daily, and I think the issue of the credit limits not being reported is definitely worth discussion. I just don't like the solutions: Dispute with the statement until the limit is there. I find that just about all "solutions" require more UNPAID LABOR for the people who value their credit rating. I get frustrated, it's clear that nothing can be accomplished. So why bother? Most people don't do a whole lot better when they trott to work everyday, but at least they get a paycheck. I wonder how many people think that I'm the "Dear Ann" of credit and get paid for this. I already know that there's a considerable percentage of readers who're convinced that I'm extremely stupid. And there's days when I agree. It makes no sense. After I posted my responses to Shylock and John tonight, I knew it's time to get away from the forum for a while. Who needs the aggravation? Not me! So I changed the "Dating" section to "anything," open for discussions of any kind with instant postings. The other sections except for the "Test" area are set to queue messages. It'll probably take a few days till everything works the way I want. I guess I'll see how it works out. Maybe it'll be better to have discussions and Q&A unmoderated and then post summaries, anything NEW in the appropriate sections. Another big problem with Discus is the poor search function. There is no way to insert the date with the results or sort the results by date. I often have the toughest time finding a particular topic. Was looking for Senator's topic on mortgage after bankruptcy and gave up before I found it. Most searches produce hundreds of results. That's how they get you to buy that next upgrade. Maybe I can get another program to search the forum, once I have some spare time. Tried Google, but it didn't work. Since Zachary mentioned Greg Fisher, I thought I'd check and see what's up at creditscoring.com. Was hoping for a forum there. Well, not a word on NextGen scores or a forum, but 3 blinking annoying ads: USA Today, Next Card, and "Get your FREE credit report online CLICK HERE." And there was the Google search engine, it paid 3 cents per search until a few weeks ago. I clicked on announcements since there was a teaser about some announcement on the main page. Another 3 ads blinked and rotated. Qspace. Good thing there's that x button. I think I saw enough of Greg's site for another 1/2 year, at least. I got so sick of the ads at BayHouse I just removed them again. I would literally spend HOURS searching through merchants' graphics, looking for a nice little NON-blinking pic. Sometimes I found one, often I didn't. It wasn't worth the 50 bucks/month. The problems with the Qspace credit reports really pissed me off too. I want nothing to do with Qspace. Which of course is owned by the same parent company as ConsumerInfo.com (freecreditreport.com.) Now I moved the ads to order-credit.shtml and I made the little text links on the other pages. That's about as low key as it gets, yet spells out clearly what is there without rotating and blinking at you. We'll see how that goes. I really hope to get the credit and FICO section updated. And I want to write my Qspace Epinion. I'd like to post how intricate the web of corporate propaganda really is, but it would take a few hours to put it all together with the links and quotes. First I have to convince Toshiba to send me a new computer. Finally got the second external trackpad to work last week. Spent 3 days moving data and installing software and then had the CD drive die on me in the middle of an install. One day after I had started to use it for E-mail and all kinds of data. Lap link started to disconnect constantly, so it took 2 days to get the data back on my old machine. If that's not enough to make you cry, I was then informed that there'd be a 7 to 10 day turnaround for repairs and that the machine HAS to go to Toshiba. That after literally HUNDREDS of hours of research before I bought that machine. So I got to argue with the tech support supervisor who told me that it clearly says so on their web site. I READ the warranty information page to him with the 3 day turnaround including shipping and the option to take it to an authorized service center. He referred me to the warranty department. The nice lady named Doris didn't believe me. I went to look for that page today and all I got was an error. I had saved the file, but it would not load. Talk about LUCK, I was at my base on Monday and had printed the evidence. And if Toshiba doesn't agree to send me a new machine by the end of this week, one that any service center can repair, I'm going to file another law suit. No more wasting endless hour for weeks or months, I've had enough! I still have to deal with Verizon, VoiceStream, ArmComputer. Still don't have a lawyer. And I wished I had the time to update in the forum. Did I mention that I'd like to finish painting my kitchen cabinets and I got a 5 gallon bucket of primer for the exterior? And I want to plant at least a hundred Joshua trees .... Last night I started reading Silko's "Gardens in the Dunes," it's time for some FUN activities. |
