Ok I just checked my Experian report online and to my "SURPRISE" I had a potential negative entry. My report has been very clean and this came as quite a surprise, apparently Helig Meyers whom I financed furniture through sold their accounts to another company, but I had a perfect payment history and paid them off last spring. I have know idea why this would be a ptotential negative?? The acount states transferred and paid. I called Experian and they really couldn't explain this either, I said I want this account put back in good standing section marked closed never late. Does anybody have any idea what this about and what to do about it?

I don't think it's negative unless it is reported as a finance company account or recently opened.

Thanks Christine, but I am still a bit confused, this account has been closed and paid in full for almost a year, I just don't understand what this has to do with me in regards to them selling their accounts, mine has been paid for quite sometime. I did find out the Helig Meyers filed BK, but I still don't know why this could reflect negatively on my reports??

Ann, do you subscribe a credit report monitoring service, who exactly states that it is potentially negative?

As part of the Helig Meyers BK, probably your account, although paid, was transferred. I would assume that Meyers will stop reporting.

No Christine, I got my report direct from Experian online and the first section of the report is titled potential negatives, prior to this that account HAS always been in the good standing section. This just has me puzzled and this was my first account that I started building credit with.

Ann, I have no idea why it would be listed as potentially negative, thought maybe it was an alert to a new account. But if it shows as paid with no lates, I just don't know.

I'd send a fax to Experian and try for a written answer.

How much does your credit report say you owe on the account? I find it hard to believe that an account was 'sold' unless you 'owed' something on it.
