| | Tuesday, February 08, 2000 - 02:06 pm I have come to a difficult decision and that decision is to stop posting on Bayhouse. Effective immediately I won't be frequenting this site anymore. I've personally seen Christine kick people off this site for things I thought were trivial. I feel censorship is wrong. But that's not why I'm leaving. I feel that the rules of Bayhouse are not clearly expressed, easily understandable and fairly enforced. For example Christine has asked rcb not to post because 'Rcb (rbielak) is in an entirely different class, the "wannabe" expert. Rcb's advice is sometimes outright wrong.' Despite that right here we have Kristy Welsh giving incorrect information to a poster. Kristy is truly a "wannabe" expert -- having an entire site devoted to "credit info." Yet she fails to answer a simple question correctly, especially when the correct information can be so easily found on the FTC website. Of course, Kristy is in scant danger of getting banned. Her philosophical outlook is similar to Christine and so her incorrect answers are ignored. As long as she keeps beating the anti-credit scoring drum she's above the law. This is not to say that Rcb doesn't give wrong or misleading information. He does and I've personally disputed some of this claims. That he and I are close philosophically does not entitle him to a 'pass' in my book. When he's wrong, I stand up and say so. To those people I have helped I'm glad I was able to. To those people who think they're anonymous and want to see me banned -- there's no need.

| | Wednesday, February 09, 2000 - 02:22 am I think it would be a mistake to give up because of sean and rcb. Most who read this column simply scroll through the tirades or ugly comments. I've been lurking at this site for over a year, taking tidbits here and there to rebuild my credit and my life. This site has helped way too many people just to let two overly ernest individuals cause you to stop posting. Ignore and continue. Your cause is not in vain. Many support you.

That he and I are close philosophically does not entitle him to a 'pass' in my book. When he's wrong, I stand up and say so. Just to quantify this, I've never said that I don't make mistakes. I just, as Sean put it quite clearly, get treated much differently. As for This is not to say that Rcb doesn't give wrong or misleading information. He does and I've personally disputed some of this claims. That he and I are close philosophically does not entitle him to a 'pass' in my book. When he's wrong, I stand up and say so. There was never a dispute. I only stated that the CRA's will send out a corrected report (which is a requirement of the FCRA and is printed quite clearly at the end of dispute results from both Experian and Trans Union, and on a separate enclosed letter from Equifax. But you were right in saying that most creditors won't do a damn thing with it anyway. See, everybody. People CAN disagree without trashing each other, even when the rules of the forums aren't stated. rbielak Bielak's Consumer Credit Information Center

| | Wednesday, February 09, 2000 - 01:55 pm I hope that the decision of Sean and Christine to stop frequenting Bayhouse is more probationary than absolute. And even if you do not post, I hope that you two still read. Some of the newcomers incorrectly refer to me as one of the experts. The true experts politely allow that to pass. It should be known that a significant portion of what I know was learned from the absentee experts. I do not post that frequently in the Credit section anymore. I consider it inappropriate to post about things that I have little knowledge about. At least in the Dating section nobody has expectations of knowledge. I can't hurt anybody. All I can do is make them think. It saddens to me to see that people are made unhappy by something that should be a source of pleasure. This is a free exchange of information. It's fun. Though I do wish that people would clarify their statements, and distinguish opinion/theory from established practice from law. There are a number of upsetting things on the board. Lazy people post questions that were answered the day before, without ever bothering to see if their issue was already addressed. But the biggest gripe seems to be the antagonism between the regulars. Here is my 2 cents, by analogy. I recently spoke at a County Commissioner's meeting about upcoming assault rifle legislation. I listened to well dressed people make televised statements, in very authoritative tones, that were absolutely, almost comically false. Armed with medical texts, statistical data from federal agencies, and ballistic data from the U.S. Army, I had no hope of dealing with the incredible endless wealth of misinformation. There was too much. I was so depressed afterwards that I felt empty, like I was hungry. I felt overwhelmed by the ignorance. I put in my appearance, but inside I had given up. Credit is so much more difficult to understand than assault rifles. So there will be even more ignorance here. The ignorance of the masses is an unavoidable fact. How can you allow such a given to upset you? That's like allowing the blueness of the sky to bother you. It's harder to accept our own ignorance. The more that I learn, the more that I realize I don't know anything. Maybe that is the sign of an expert. If the suggestion is not too late, I urge you to accept that people are ignorant. All of us. We will post incorrect information. So might you on occasion. Ignorance is not stupidity. Correct us and educate us. Or don't. If you don't, then it is not your fault if someone else misled us. Yes there are definite ego problems on the board. But that is not so bad. Why should the internet be any different from the real world? We're all adults. We've dealt with egos and ignorance. Sometimes our own. I will not say that you are "wrong" to let such things depress you or chase you away. The obsession with "wrong" might be part of the problem. But I feel that I could have had a healthier response to the ignorance and egos that I recently faced. If we can't deal with it here, how can we deal with the real world? I suspect that if you go to any other forum with as many experienced people, you will encounter as many personality conflicts. I used to post on a more friendly forum. But compared to them, I actually was an expert, and I had little to learn. I suspect that you will not be happy if you find such an alternative forum for yourself. Just a few thoughts to mull over.

| | Thursday, February 10, 2000 - 06:37 pm This is a joke people! If your gonna leave then just be gone. True that! Some members like Sean, have been of great help to myselfand others, but if your going to leave us then life goes on. Kristy and anyone else, please get yourself a life away from your computer, make real friends and check your emotions at the door before you power up the PC. This site like many is about business, even if we are talking about personal business. This is not a social call so save the drama for a boyfriend, girlfriend, husband/and friends (I hope).
