Anonymous | Thursday, March 16, 2000 - 04:44 am Hey everyone, I have a 30 day delinquency with discover due to a returned check. I did not know the check was returned until I received the next statement and was therefore reported. I disputed with each credit bureau with a "I was never late on this account" and it came back as accurate each time. The delinquency is less than a year old. Has anyone had any luck with Discover removing such a delinquency due to a returned check? Or am I using the wrong approach with the credit bureaus? Thanks. |
Anonymous | Thursday, March 16, 2000 - 05:23 am I tried to get Discover to remove negative info on an account that I CoSigned on but the other person was paying. I was willing to payoff the balance in return. They refused. I figuared They used the same policy SEARS uses No haggling over debts. I still owe Sears 75.00 that I refuse to pay. |
    Anonymous | Thursday, March 16, 2000 - 12:13 pm That's because Discover IS Sears! |
Anonymous | Thursday, March 16, 2000 - 12:46 pm Yes, Sears is notorious for NEVER dealing to remove/modify a credit notation. If you go BK, pay off Sears and wait the necessary SOL time frame (usually 6 months) then file. Sears also got into some legal trouble a few years ago by contacting people who dischared their Sears CC debt via bankruptcy in an attempt to get them to "re-affirm" the debt. Sears gets nasty when you owe them and cannot pay. I have heard they will even try to re-possess the items you bought on your Sears card. |
Anonymous | Friday, March 17, 2000 - 05:51 am I had several lates on my Discover card, but after I had paid them off, and closed the account, I wrote to the CBs and challenged the lates. Discover did not reaffirm the lates. But prior to that, I had asked them (nicely) if they would remove the lates, as we were buying a home. They wouldn't do it. As an FYI, I was able to get JCP, Meryvns,Dillards and Chrysler to remove lates after I called and said we were trying to qualify for a house. All did it. |
Anonymous | Saturday, March 18, 2000 - 06:54 am This might be of interest... I went into a Sears store once and found several employees around a huge pile of merchandise. They were going through each item and marking it off on a sheet of paper. Mainly clothing & shoes, small appliances etc.... All of it obviously used. I went up to ask a question and then began talking about this pile. They said it was repossed from somebody that filed bankruptcy and did not want to re-affirm their debt. Every single thing you charge at Sears is secured by the property. We're talking dirty underwear and socks, worn out clothing and shoes. Dirty & chipped dishes, bedding etc... I asked what they do with it and they said the salvagable stuff they would sell at discount, everything else would be given to charity for a tax write off. Can you believe that!!!!! |
Kristi Feathers (Kfeath) | Saturday, March 18, 2000 - 08:34 am Yes, I can believe it. I once (many years ago) worked for Sears Credit & Collection Department. I had to show up at the 341 meetings (creditor meetings for BK) and I would have to ask for items back that were disgusting and embarrassing. Used toasters, used tools, old Stereo's even clothes. I could not feel good about it and I soon moved on. Additionally, Sears was worse then any collection agency I ever worked for! The agencies had more couth! |
