I was sent a letter from an agency about a visa account which I stop paying for 5 years ago,
fortunatly I am doing better financially now so I called them and offered to settle out of $1700 I only needed to pay them $950 which could be payed $25 a month for three years no interest. I thought it was a good deal. but after finding this site I realized I have no real obligation to pay.

here comes the question:
I sent them the Initial check to start my sentence which happened to be $50 Am I a) screwed or can I b) make a stop payment
I called them they did not call me, nothing is in writing and the bill I recieved looked like an ordinary bill and my wife signed and sent the check. and no we did not know each other when this debt was valid

If they haven't cashed the check, put a stop payment on it.

I think making as much as one payment will reset the 7 years it can stay on your credit.

THIS IS THE PROBLEM WITH THIS SITE.

PEOPLE LIKE YOU.

YOU DO OWE THEM THE MONEY, YOUR JUST TRYING TO FIND A WAY TO GET OUT OF PAYING.

IF SOMEONE OWED YOU MONEY BUT TRIED TO GET OUT OF PAYING THE SAME WAY YOU ARE YOU WOULD BE SCREAMING WE NEED MORE LAWS.

YOUR A DEAD BEAT AND A LOSER. I THINK WE SHOULD HAVE DEBTORS PRISON FOR PEOPLE LIKE YOU AND ALL THE OTHER WHINERS THAT CONSTANTLY COMPLAIN THEIR HAVING A HARD TIME GETTING OUT OF PAYING THEIR OBLIGATIONS.

DISGUSTED

I have the toughest time reading all caps, but I think I got the idea. And here is what I have to say in response:

Just in the last 18 months companies have defrauded me out of over $5,000.

In the last 10 years, my most conservative estimate is at about $20,000. That's WITHOUT interest, penalties, etc.

We are talking about sales people who lied to me, products that sucked, faulty repairs, contracts that weren't honored, just plain misrepresentation.

If I add the time I had to waste dealing with corporate incompetence (including incorrect credit reporting,) I'm owed at least $200,000 for the last 10 years. This is a very LOW estimate.

The day I get MY money, I'll stop advising people on how to save THEIR money.

I'm sending a copy of this posting to "Michael C. Shanahan" via E-mail, find it difficult to believe that morons like him would be in the mortgage business. Who/where is that Nationwide Mortgage?

My only words would be to wish Mr. Shanahan the same crap that corporations have dealt to their loyal employees and the ensuing financial trauma of trying to cope emotionally, mentally, and financially. What a stupid myopic idiot, typical brainless employee who will one day be rewarded by being downsized, reorganized, lose his car, lose his house, his family and all else. Remain loyal Mr Shanahan. It will pay you well. Walk a mile in another man's shoes and get real

I don't think this guy has a mortage co. My personal email address is XXXX@home.com.
home.com is Comcast Cable , We have the option of setting up 7 different email addresses.

If this was an actual co wouldn't the domain name resemble the company name. mycompany.com.

Just a thought.

True, still strange though. He actually sent a similar mail months ago, it's posted too.

I can understand that somebody doesn't like the site and has to vent, but why come back?

Hey Shanahan...

It's a shame you are an uncaring jerk. I would never wish unemployment and hardship on you. Too bad people like you are so eager to assume that people don't have difficulties.

I worked faithfully for 10 years in management jobs making lowball sums of money doing what I loved. I WAS LAID OFF. No job for 6 months (twice in my life) I paid my debts. I DID NOT APPLY FOR UNEMPLOYMENT I WORKED CRAP JOBS AND STAYED WITH FRIENDS WHILE I PAID MY DEBTS OUT OF OBLIGATION. Now I filed for bankruptcy, you know why? These companies WOULD NOT work with me on interest during my unemployment and I said forget it.

AM I A WHINER? NO! I tried to do the right thing and these scumbag collection agencies and credit card companies WOULD NOT HEAR OF IT. It's funny how you are a LOSER and WHINER when you do the right thing, but it's NEVER EVER the fault of these bloodsucking credit companies that make it impossible to live in our society without CREDIT!

JERK...

Hey guys...

At least he's a good typist...Just remember, Karma exists. If this Shanahan has never fallen victim, he will. If not in the near, in the far future.

I think a Debtor's prison is a great idea, Shanie, my boy. Then I could put all of the companies that promised to pay me on time behind bars, as well as the institution that cut back my hours and ruined my financial future. Why not just draw and quarter them? Hang them from the highest yardarm?

Brilliant suggestion.

Hey Shanahan...

I know if debtor's prison is reinstituted, then why not throw all of the jerks who failed to make payments on products ordered from my former company and put me out of work? I have worked in distribution sales for a while and have noticed that WAY too many companies don't pay their debts on time either. Hey dummy, who's a deadbeat? The jerk who overbought products for his little (or huge) store/chain or the person who paid on time until they got laid off? Answer: THE JERK BUSINESSMAN WHO WOULDN'T PAY US BECAUSE HE COULD BUT WOULDN'T. I've heard every damn excuse in the book. But guess what? He can file for bk and not effect his business since 9 times out of 10 he is a dba.

It's funny how some companies gripe about 60 day terms, when we as a consumer would NEVER get that kind of consideration.

JERK JERK AND YOU ARE A JERK!

Oops I meant that a businessman can file for bk and not have it effect his PERSONAL credit. Nice deal.

Yeah, it is. This should really go into a separate topic, but I'm seriously considering starting several LLCs (Limited Liability Company.) It doesn't work for Californians, because you have the $800 annual franchise fee, but in AZ it's only $50 to file!

Imagine making your purchases through the LLC, all your contracts and utilities, from phone to car lease to signing up for that Gym ...

At least 90% of all my disputes could have been avoided if I used an LLC on the contract. I could simple not give a damn about what they report on my LLC's credit.

It'll take a while to establish credit, but if parents started LLCs for their kids at age 10, the 18 year old should be able to get credit and have most contracts under the LLC.

Even better, start FIVE LLCs, and when you have a problem with one LLC, dissolve it and just use the others. Start a new one to replace the dissolved, so you'll always have plenty of options.

Well, as I said, I got to do more reading on that, but it sure looks promising.

Maybe this is the economical way to get around the laws preventing us from changing our identity?

I hate idiots like that! I had someone on my message board stalking me. He somehow actually found out my dad's phone number in Va and called my Step mom at like 5 in the morning and called her a whore! I blocked his proxy address, but the idiots at Webtv were MUCH less than helpful. They didn't even send me any kind of confirmation as to the status of his account, much less his identity. I'm considering sueing them for the information. At least you know who this guy is!

Christine,
Nationwide is a collection recovery service! If you look at the properties from his e-mail,(right mouse click on the mail and go to details) it will give you the IP address from the originating server. We would be able to look it up in the internic, and perhaps forward his nasty mail back to him and his company. The logo on the front page of NationWide is " Providing Critical Financial Services with Ability and Integrity" If he is from NationWide, then the integrity part is a joke - as it usually is with most of these companies.
