Daniel Tretola (Dant) | Tuesday, June 20, 2000 - 07:45 pm So I just got an offer in the mail for a Fleet Bank Platinum Mastercard. I must precede the offer with some info though... Recently (2 months ago I believe) I did the e-loan score, and had a 640. I was getting offers for secured cards left and right, but don't need any of them as I had 2 cards from before I ever had any late payments, and messed up my credit. So I still get offers for secured cards, and even cards that aren't secured, but with high interest rates, and low credit lines ($1000-$3000). So recently I got an offer that was for a "real" credit card with a 16% interest rate, and a credit line of about $5000- but it was a capital one, and the card looked a little cheesy (translation- I didn't like the way the card looked). Now only all this, but as I said, I have 2 valid cards already- a Discover with a $2000 limit and a Citi mastercard with $5000 limit, both about 16% interest. So here is my newest offer- "Pre-Qualified for:" 0% Fixed Introductory APR on purchases- 10.99% Fixed APR afterwards (Until Jan 1st 2001) No Annual Fee No Balance Transfer Fees Credit line up to $50,000. 20 Day grace period minimum finance charge - $0.50 comments?? I am curious as to what you all think of this offer. -Dan |
Shylock (Shylock) | Tuesday, June 20, 2000 - 08:23 pm Take it. What's the problem? Just because the card 'looks bad' ? |
John Shimmer (Jshimmer) | Wednesday, June 21, 2000 - 09:13 am I've had my Fleet Platinum (7.99% fixed for life, $10k credit limit, etc.) for about 6 months. No problems until recently. Now they want to hit us with a $35 annual fee. The reason we went with this card was because of several things, INCLUDING the no annual fee. We're closing this card (very small balance). I have another from Partner's First (now Wachovia) @ 2.9% for a year then 10.99% fixed. I carry about $1900 on that right now (the result of combining 6 or 7 cards with a few hundred on each + one major purchase, was $3600) but pay $200-300 a month as to get most of it paid off before the intro rate is up. I just got an offer for 1.9% for 9 months (then 13.99%) from AT&T Universal Platinum. I'm going to apply just so I can transfer what's left on the Partner's First when that intro rate is done. Fleet Platinum is/was good, until 6 months after you have the card they change the rules and want you to start paying an annual fee. Screw that. |
Christine Baker (Admin) | Wednesday, June 21, 2000 - 12:44 pm Read the VERY small print to see if you authorize a credit check. I recently got the "Citibank Platinum Select Acceptance Form" Upon close inspection I found the provision authorizing the credit check. Re Fleet annual fees: Did John request that the fee be waived prior to closing the account? |
John Shimmer (Jshimmer) | Thursday, June 22, 2000 - 06:57 am I'm waiting on my new AT&T card to arrive before I close the Fleet card. I have a couple hundred on the Fleet that I'm going to transfer over (or pay off before the AT&T card arrives). When I call, I'll ask if they'll waive the annual fee - forever. Usually, they waive the fee and then try to jack you the next year because you've forgot about it. Then you get to argue with them and spend $35 time and/or phone calls to get it waived again. |
Christine Baker (Admin) | Thursday, June 22, 2000 - 01:22 pm You're right John, but I doubt they'll agree to wave the annual fee forever. Please let us know what they say. |
