i imagine many of these have been covered here before, but i did spend a lot of time last night reading all the posts. it is so refreshing to see a decent forum without 5 zillion blinking banners offering credit cards and credit repair services.
i have been separated for a little over 3 years now and am finally recovering from my X's debts - paying off what seemed reasonable to pay off and waiting out what will drop off the report in the next year or two.
there are a couple of cards on my report that list me as "authorized user". i have never seen nor used these cards. however, if i understand correctly it is perfectly legal for them to be on my report? Interestingly enough, one of these is Capital One. i have my own Capital One card that is paid on time.
Some of the collection agencies seem to report every few months, changing the date of "status/last reported". or they will be turned over to a different collection agency, changing the date yet again. is it actually the date of last activity/last payment that starts the seven year prison term? i erad that it is "starts from the time you were late or the late payment went into collection". of the two, is it which ever was longest - the time you were late, or the time when they turned it over to collection?

For example, i have Anderson Fin Network listed twice for the same debt. One states Recent Balance/Recent Payment of $304 as of 3-1998 and the other states exactly the same as of 12-1996.
some things that were included in bankruptcy are listed as Charge Off instead of Included with Bankruptcy. should i dispute these or are the labels each just as harmful?
where can i find my credit score? after a couple of years of hard work, relentless letter writing and frustration i am suddenly getting credit cards left and right. i am curious to know where i stand now score wise so i have a good comparison point for next year.
Thanks so much!!!

I'm glad you appreciate the lack of blinking banners. I HATE those with a passion.

I'm not really sure if the charge-off instead of "included in bankruptcy" will lower your score, I always thought it didn't matter as long as the DATE was correct.

Which is your next concern and so important, I just spent the last 2 hours reading what's been posted here and the FTC opinion letters.

I summarized my thoughts on the DATES at

Why and how to dispute incorrect DATES for collections/charge-offs (FTC opinion letters)

Also make sure that you dispute DUPLICATE account reports.

We also had discussions on the "authorized user" issue. It is my opinion that if you didn't SIGN anything, you could have those accounts removed.

Of course, you might want to notify the creditors that you no longer want to be an authorized user.

And I have NO IDEA where you can get your Credit Scores without adding inquiries.

It needs to say INCLUDED IN BK or you definitely lose points.

Do we have any references for that? Something to use in court if one were to sue a creditor for NOT reporting "included in bk?"

Mortgage underwriters ignore any derogs up to the bankruptcy, whether included or not.

It would make sense for Scoring to do the same, but since I didn't know for sure I always disputed those accounts, with limited success.

If you look at the dispute forms provided by the credit reporting agencies you'll see that they have a box to check when you're disputing an item as included in bankruptcy.

Yeah, but that doesn't mean that it will lower your Credit Score when NOT included in the bk.
