Kay Tvaroch (Kay) | Sunday, July 02, 2000 - 10:55 am I really have tried using the Keyword Search for the last several hours, but need to clarify what I have read, and appreciate the help you give. My last credit activity ended in 1993 and 1994..won't bore you with my war story...but have been waiting since for the bad credit card accounts to drop off the seven year time..which I figured would be by September of 2001. Today, for the first time in as many years, dared to access a quick credit report from QSpace. What a surprise I found. Apparently one of my accounts was acquired by "COLDATA INC, " Open date: July 1999, Balance date: June 13, 2000, Last Pay Date:--- Amount:$2687. Balance:$2999. Past Due: $2999.Account Status: internal collection department, 7 times derogatory, This Account is Closed." Another account was acquired by KCA FINANCIAL SVCS "Open date: Jan 1998,Balance date: April 2, 1998, Last Pay Date--- Amount:$1089,Balance:$1089. Past Due:$1089. Account seriously past due date, assigned to attorney, collection agency or credit grantor's internal collection department.1 times derogatory This Account is Closed." Am I understanding that because these accounts were generated before 1996, that the Collection Agencies and CRA can use the "Charge Off" or sell off, date in terms of seven year reporting. instead of the date of the last activity? If not, how do I word a dispute letter? I don't have an old credit report, or even the old bills. Also, I guess I need to step to the plate and request a credit report from all three credit agencies. What is the safest way to do this? Thanks so much. |
Christine Baker (Admin) | Sunday, July 02, 2000 - 12:09 pm Just dispute the dates. State that the last activity was 93 and have them prove otherwise. I really consider the 96 FCRA revision merely a clarification on this issue. It is obviously incorrect that YOUR last activity was in 98/99. Please post the results! |
Christine Baker (Admin) | Sunday, July 02, 2000 - 12:18 pm Oh, and regarding the merged report, somebody once posted that the reports from privacyguard.com don't result in inquiries, but I don't know that for sure. Try this: dispute those collection accounts with all 3 agencies WITHOUT ordering the other reports. You should then get all reports with the corrections. You do NOT have to purchase a report in order to dispute. It's FREE and you don't add new inquiries. |
Kay Tvaroch (Kay) | Sunday, July 02, 2000 - 01:39 pm Great, FREE sounds very good at this point. I will let you know what eventually happens. I'm so glad for this site. Thanks again. |
michelle l belanger (Mlyn) | Sunday, July 02, 2000 - 02:40 pm FWIW, I've not had a problem with the CRA's providing a copy of the report simply by writing and requesting it. I'm not sure that their feeble minds check to see if you were actually denied credit based upon a report that they provided. |
    Christine Baker (Admin) | Sunday, July 02, 2000 - 03:42 pm Thanks, that's great to know! |
Shylock (Shylock) | Sunday, July 02, 2000 - 05:41 pm I know for a fact that PrivacyGuard does not result in charged inquiries. They are my primary credit report provider. I think they have a 3-for-$1 special going on right now where you can get a triple merged report for a buck and signing up for service. |
Christine Baker (Admin) | Sunday, July 02, 2000 - 06:36 pm Thanks! Now why can't I find their affiliate program? |
John Shimmer (Jshimmer) | Monday, July 10, 2000 - 09:27 am michelle: FWIW, I've not had a problem with the CRA's providing a copy of the report simply by writing and requesting it. I'm not sure that their feeble minds check to see if you were actually denied credit based upon a report that they provided. Not true. Call Experian's automated system. Try selecting the choices for receiving a copy because you've been denied credit. The system will tell you if you have NOT had ANY inquiries in the past 60 days and will not allow you to obtain a "free copy". |
michelle l belanger (Mlyn) | Monday, July 10, 2000 - 02:55 pm John: I can't do that with mine because they provided most of the reports over the past several months. We have however, done precisely that with friends and in-laws who haven't made any applications for any type of credit in a period of time that is significantly longer than 60 days. We got the recording that said "The information you inputted correctly identified you in our records, yada, yada, yada" The reports showed up without any request for money being made other than the standard language on the automated system. Don't know what to say, unless it changed in th elast few weeks. |
Shylock (Shylock) | Monday, July 10, 2000 - 04:11 pm Anyway you can always contact the credit reporting agencies saying you want to insert a comment in your credit report. You can always say something like, "All delinquencies were prior to 1/1/1998 at which time I gained permanent, full-time employment." In about 15 days time your credit report will show up with that little note appended as 'proof' that they put that baby right into your file as you requested. Come another 6 months later you want to see your credit file again just call 'em up a second time and say you want it removed. You'll get a copy of your credit report again, no problem 'tall. |
Don (Don) | Tuesday, July 18, 2000 - 07:57 am Michelle, I've done the same but have also had Trans Union write me back wanting to know who declined me. |
John Shimmer (Jshimmer) | Tuesday, July 18, 2000 - 08:15 am Michelle - I did just what I told you about an hour before I posted that original message, and the recording said "No way, Dude. Nobody has obtained your report in the past 60 days, so you could not have been turned down for anything based on our report". Shylock: You can't even TALK to anyone about your credit file there without their "confirmation number" that's on a 60 day or newer credit report from them. The recording says you HAVE to have that number. Otherwise, the recording says "Goodbye" and hangs up. |
Shylock (Shylock) | Tuesday, July 18, 2000 - 07:00 pm I said 'contact' that doesn't automatically mean the phone. You could write the credit bureau saying you wanted to insert a comment. That would give you your credit report in the mail complete with confirmation number attached. |
    G. Edwards (Edwards) | Thursday, July 20, 2000 - 02:29 pm I recently disputed an item with all three CRAs and items were updated and deleted. I received explanation letters and free copies of my credit report from Trans Union and Equifax but only a sheet saying one item was updated from Experian. I phoned Experian asking why they did not send me a complete report and they said that since I lived in Florida I was ONLY entitled to that free report in case of Fraud or if I had been denied credit in the previous 60 days and I'd have to pay $8.00. I still haven't received a full report. |
