Currently I am pursuing a claim of $200,000 against a furnisher of credit reporting data and one of the "big-three" bureaus.

In short, the furnisher made reported an item to one bureau even though they were fully aware the amount was in dispute. The disputed amount was due to faulty repairs on a vehicle. The furnisher even took me to small claims to enforce their claim, but I prevailed. This same company refused to remove the false derogotory information from my credit report. When investigated by the bureau, the item was "verified."

With that, I hired on contingency an attorney in Saint Paul, MN who specialized in FCRA matters. He immediately sued the furnisher and the bureau.

The case has not yet come to trial, but we have received settlement offers from both parties.

The attorney advises me not to accept the amount I have been offered (less than 15% of the original claim) but to persist for the $200,000.

I will keep the forum advised as things progress and wanted to offer a glimmer of hope for those furnishers who knowingly violate the FCRA.

Be persistant and keep going with the suit until you receive ALL the damages that you are seeking.
200,000$ is a small amount for what you have been through. I would be asking for ALOT of punitive damages. Nail those scumbag credit reporting agencies to the wall! Keep us advised.
