Strange happenings on my end of the street.

I just bought a new house and we need a fridge and a washer and dryer. We went to Sears and I was denied credit. No reason was given to me - and I watched it happen. The guy entered my social in the cash register and it said denied instantly (not even a second or two to check the score). Do FICO systems really work that quickly?

Then - two days later we tried at my Credit Union for a Visa card that we could use for the purchase. 10 minutes later, I walked away with a $5000.00 gold visa card!

I've been working on my credit for about two years now and there's still a few collections on there (all paid now - some more than 7 years and still fighting like crazy to stay there)

It makes a big difference when a person is looking at your credit report.

Did Sears ever lose money on you? Sometimes they'll have your social security number on a personal 'blacklist' that won't show up on your credit report. AMEX is like that too.

No - they did not.

I did default on a credit card at another department store 8+ years ago - and it has been paid since.

Trust me, you are better off without a Sears Card. They are as bad as Providian or 1st USA/Chevy Chase. Stay as far away as possible. I bet you could have gotten a better deal at Home Depot or Lowes.

Chase is evil. They call my home 2 and 3 times a day to demand money - but the person they want money from doesn't live here! Every time, I tell them this, and they go "Oh, uh-huh" and call right back an hour later.

I got sick of bill collectors calling for someone (no clue about how my number got in thier records, previous to my moving there phone number?) who didn't live here. Never even heard of the person. When I got sick of them calling again and again. I finally just said, yes, I am that person now cease and desist. I doubt if it is legal, but I really don't care.
