| | Thursday, November 23, 2000 - 09:10 pm This is such a great site... I'm so glad i found it. I have learn much reading the post here. I have many questions and a little to add. Questions First? Are Fico scores usually included on the reports you get directly from the big three? I got an online report directly from experian (very nice) but it didn't include it. I also got an online one from Qspace (equifax)(BIG WASTE of $8). This report was Extremely general and full of abbreviations. No credit scores here either. Don't buy this PORDUCT it's a waster. Will CRA generally remove duplicate addresses (with minor differences) on a report if you request it. I have about 20 different addresses on my reports with minor differences in syntax. (i.e. 22 Easy Street, 22EASY ST, 2 2 EASY Street) Also I may as well add the big picture being there are so many people here with similiar experinces and much GOOD advice to offer. Ok I'm 26 year old male. At 22 filed for Chapter 7..... At 20 while being a student had a car accident and destroyed alot "property" and was sued for a substantial amount. Dropped out of school and got a job. Shorty after mom had an accident between jobs which left her hospitalized and in a finanical bind. I was an authorized user on two of her cards with large balences. Chapter 7 provided fresh start and peace of mind. Skip to age 24... mom got a settlement and made good on all her obligations. Graciously gave me the money to pay off my student loan (the only thing I had left after the Bankruptcy). My first CC offer was First Premier.. high APR and a $6 a month paricipation fee. (limit 250-450) (Dropped this card some time ago). Then Providian Visa came with $1000. WOW! Then I put $1000 in a Western Security secured card (5.9 APR). They were put out of the secured card bussines for discrimnatory practices. Got my $1000 back. Put $600 in a partially secured Direct Merchants Bank card ($1000 limit). Providian kept going up periodically $1500,$2000,3500. I was chargeing alot on Providian and paying the whole balence. I had a decent paying job which I hated. I got a Providian ARIA offer.. got the card $1000 limit. Regular Providian is now GOLD with $5000 limit. Sometime in between got a Capital one Visa $250, now $500. Ok now we are in the present (Age 26). I am now a college student with little income, but I have no balences. Drive a paid-for OLD but well running Acura. Low four figure savings. I use my cards periodically just to kept activity on them. I purchase things that I already have the money for or I know I will have it (tuition, books, groceries, supplies). Just trying to build good entries on my report. I will graduate in two years and want to buy a house hopefully 18 months after being gainfully employed. 3.5 years in all from now (8 years after chapter 7) I'm scrubing credit reports now. On my Experian report I had 12 negative entrys (pre Bankrupty days) and 11 positive ones (post and pre Bankruptcy). Latest negative entry will drop 2 years before Chapter 7 entry. I'm going to soon close the Capital one card and later pickup a secured American Express Optima. My reasoning is to save on Annual fee's by closing my lowest limit card and showing some diversity of companies I have (re)establihed credit with. In a non credit-score decision proccess I am sure AMEX has to look pretty good. Other than Scrubing reports and reading here.. is there more that I need to do or look out for? Don't slam me on the amount of cards I have. I know it's too many.. I'm just trying to build my credit for when I will need it. In three years I want to close them all but two. The Providian Gold is nice for the Rental car Insurance and high Limit but with NO grace period and 23.99% APR compounded daily it's not practical to carry a balence. The Western Security card was nice to have with it's low APR. I had about 1 year good credit with them. I should have asked them give me an unsecured account. Thats water under the bridge now. Whats else should I do guys? Kudos to Christine for having a site like this!

| | Friday, November 24, 2000 - 05:07 am Have you checked your credit reports to ensure that everything that was included in bankruptcy specifically shows included in bankruptcy? A lot of times after bankruptcy these things don't show properly. You may also need to get the judgements removed off of your report. It makes no sense that you would still have bad credit unless you've been paying late on your current obligations or there is inaccurate information on your credit report. Do the credit cards you have currently report complete and accurate information about your payment history?

| | Friday, November 24, 2000 - 08:33 am Thanks Shylock, Yes I am scrubing reports for the reason you mentioned. Making sure things that were included in the bankruptcy are included in the Bankruptcy. I only have the Experian report for now and waiting on the others. There were 5 entries where the bankruptcy was not included on the report. Also there was a NEW past due account that wasn't mine! I wrote the appropriate letter. The Qspace Equifax report wasn't worth the paper I printed it on. I wrote them requesting a free one. (My state allows 2 free per year). When that one comes I'll scrub it. I keep hearing people talk about Removing the Judgements. Explain or point me a post or website please. Yes my new cards were on the Experian and Equifax reports. Both reports had First Premier (I closed this 1 year ago) still open. Thats a good thing right... I paid current on it and the reports reflect that. I could wait to ask them to close it to prolong it's longevity on the report.

| | Friday, November 24, 2000 - 10:57 am If the judgements against you were legally included in bankruptcy then they should come off of your credit report. I suggest making a copy of your discharge papers from the bankruptcy and sending a copy of same to all three of the credit reporting agencies.

| | Friday, November 24, 2000 - 03:07 pm In my case the judgement was paid before the decision to file. Again where do we get FICO scores now? I see they were "very" availible about 6 months ago. Where do I get mine now. I'm just curious. Also anyone with experience with trying to remove duplicate addresses?

| | Friday, November 24, 2000 - 04:06 pm Lenders see your FICO score when they order it along with your credit profile. There is no way for a consumer to get their FICO score except by going to a lender and getting it through them. Many people first learn their score when they apply for a car loan and know enough to ask or they try to get a mortgage on a house and they know enough to ask.

| | Saturday, November 25, 2000 - 08:29 pm I tried to dispute incorrect addresses with Equifax and they refused to remove them. I don't know whether it makes any difference. In California consumers should be able to get their Credit Scores starting in mid 2001. Unfortunately, your Scores vary greatly from day to day, see http://www.bayhouse.com/FICOisFRAUD.html
