I have a charged off loan from a Lease Co for 1700.00, I disputed the entry along with several other items with the CRA. Every item came back as verified. So I wrote to the creditor ( Lease Co)with settlement offer using the address on my Credit Report. The letter came back undeliverable. I called the number on the credit report and got someone from the Lease CO. ( They had moved)
Question: Do the CRA contact the creditor by Letter or phone?

Thanks
Steve
PS: I just found this forum, So I'm several more conversations.

Steve, according to the FCRA, within five days of the CRA's completing the investigation of the dispute, the CRA has to notify you of the outcome. If you request, the CRA has 15 days to explain to you in writing, the procedure used in verifing the dispute. They have to tell you the name, address and phone number of the business they contacted.

A charge off appeared on my Equifax report that I had never heard of. Called Equifax, got the phone number for the collection agency, and called. Verified it wasn't mine (the collection agency wouldn't remove it from my credit report), called Equifax back and disputed it as not being mine. They re-investigated and removed it from my credit. Not all of them go that easy though.

Cheryl:

What telephone number did you use to contact Equifax?

Did they send you a corrected report?

How long did it take them to complete the process?

Unfortunately the FCRA regulations apply only to requests made in WRITING. Phone calls obligate them to nothing.

From my experiences, it seems the credit bureaus
usually fax investigation inquiries.

If you write them with a demand to know what
method of communication they've used, the have
repsoned to me with that info (as they are
required to do).
