My husband and I had a car loan from 4/1993-4/1998 (60 months)and it had 2 30 day late payments and a car lease from 8/1996-8/1999 (36 months) with 3 30 days late payments. These entries will be on our credit reports until 2005 and 2006. Both accounts are paid in full with a 0.00 balance. I have called both car companies and pleaded with them to change the status, and how they wouldn't be reporting on these accounts anymore, and how there isn't one human being who has paid every single account, phone bill, electric bill etc on time every month for thier entire credit life and if they could show me some mercy!!, Well, after begging and pleading, they told me to send in all the checks for those late payments, which I do have, already piled on my desk, if I could show them that they were deposited on or before the due dates, they may be able to help me. Let's see what happens. If nothing happens, How will this affect our credit worthiness in 3-4 years when we are ready to buy a house?

I wouldn't worry about those lates too much as long as you don't get new ones.

However, if you bug them long enough, and it sounds like you're really good at it, they'll probably remove the lates.

Just make sure that they'll send YOU a letter stating that the late payments were reported in error because often those "corrections" aren't permanent and you'll then need to send the letters to the CRAs.
