I am currently in the process of paying some old debts. I have an outstanding balance with the utility company that I want to pay. The balance is from 1998. I have a letter from a collection agency from 1999.( This debt is not listed on my credit report, I have all three reports dated 6/29/00) I called the utility company to try to pay it and they told me that they would take my payment, but that I should contact the collection agency about the credit reporting issue. What should I do to INSURE that this debt does not get reported? I especially don't want it reported after I pay it. Any suggestions?
