Does the phone company legally have to do business with somebody AFTER a CH 7 against them? I have been told no and yes. Some lawyer told me they have to but will ask for a HUGE deposit to do so. What is the deal here? I have also been told that federal law makes them do business because they are the only game in town (not like I can get local service from someone else, right?) Please help!?!?! Thanks in advance. P.S.- I live in Southern California.

The phone company, at least in California, does have to do business with someone even after they have taken a loss with them due to a chapter 7 bankruptcy.

And they do normally ask for a deposit.
