I recently wrote to pretty standard letter to TransUnion disputing a reported lateness on an auto loan that has been paid off for over 2 years. Their first reply stated that the information I was disputing was not currently contained on my report. So, after I spent the $8 to order a new report, the same information was still there. Then I send a second letter of dispute, clearly explaining the situation and disputing the same item. I just received a letter, and another copy of my report "exactly as it appears" in their records, "as per my request". The exact information that I disputed is (of course) still contained in this report, and they have still not conducted an investigation! It's as if they are not even reading my requests. And to top it all off, they dinged my report for an inquiry! URRRRRGGGGGHHHHH!

I am in the process of writing a third letter. I am pretty ticked off, to be honest. Disputing an item on a credit report is a very standard request, one that is guaranteed by the Fair Credit Reporting Act. I have done this a million times before, and have always gotten an investigation, at least (even if the results weren't to my satisfaction).

Has anyone else ever had this problem? Why is TransUnion doing this? Any advice on how to react?
