Chad_Roberts (Chad_Ma) | Sunday, September 24, 2000 - 05:24 am My report shows a credit card which I did not recognize from First USA. After talking to them, they told me I was no where in their system and gave me an address to write them to dispute it. I did this and disputed the account with all three CRAs. TI deleted the record the other two did not. There was no response from Frist USA. When I called them and dug deeper it turn out this is a joint account that my father put my name on when I was 15. He has since been carrying a balance at 70% or more of the limit. They claim that they'll look for the application to see if I signed it, but the damage is done, this will affect my FICO score based on the fact it has been nearly maxed out. Do I have any recourse? |
David Temkin (Dtemkin) | Sunday, September 24, 2000 - 04:15 pm You were 15. See my response to the post entitled "Medical Bills" No matter what you signed, you were still not able to enter into a legally binding contract. A) First USA should have the brains to remove you from the account if you simply talk it out with them and offer to send them proof of age. B) If that fails, send letters to the CRA's stating the date the account was opened and your birthdate. Make sure it clearly states that you were not age 18 or above when the account was opened, and hence you cannot be held responsible. I got two of the three to delete it over the phone(!) without even opening a formal dispute. -Dave |
