Thursday, November 02, 2000 - 08:03 am The First question is does the collection agency own the debt (through purchase)or are they acting to collect in behalf of the creditor.
You owe the debt to the owner of the debt.
If you paid the company and the collection agency owns the debt then you have a problem with the company.
If the company owns the debt, then the collection agency is SOL.
Thursday, November 02, 2000 - 09:48 am What type of debt is this? Credit card? Really it shouldn't matter but I'm curious. If a company purchased your bad debt and you paid the original creditor, it is up to the 3rd party agency to collect from the original creditor. It's their contract not yours.
