Wednesday, November 08, 2000 - 06:33 pm Ok.. Had to place this as an emergency.. I recently had a collection agency call me regarding a debt from 4 years ago. I have never received any other attempts to collect until this one. The item has never shown on my reports. I obtained the original debtor and called and agreed to pay them their money in full. I paid the "Dentist" in full amount 138.00. on 10/30/2000 and listened as they called the collection company stating they had a paid balance in full. The woman at the dentist is sending me a letter stating what happened. Here is the BS part.. Today I get a letter in the mail from the collection agency dated 11/2/2000 (After Paid in full and after call to the collection agency stating this). The letter is a demand for payment for 194.50 thats 56.50 more than the debt. I'm assuming collection fees which I dont think I owe them for since I paid the original debt. My question is why after they have received a call saying it is paid in full are they still trying to collect the full debt.. IT'S PAID. Not to mention, They didnt perform ANY service for me by my request, and since I bypassed them, I don't owe them anything.. What should I do at this point? Call them and ask why they are screwing with me or just go ahead and send that cease comm letter thing? Please help and thanks a gigabunch for your responses!

Thursday, November 09, 2000 - 04:19 am These people do not own the debt. Therefore you do not owe them a cent. The dentist owns the debt. That obligation has been satified. Any services rendered between the dentist and the collection agency is between the dentist and the collection agency. NOT you. Next, make sure you cover your behind. Keep your letter stating the debt is paid. Make sure it says it is paid in full. Include a copy of the dentist's letter with your cease and desist letter.

Thursday, November 09, 2000 - 05:26 am http://www.budhibbs.com/ceaseletter.htm Tailor to your situation, of course. Sounds like the collector is PO'd you settled with the original creditor. And now wants his fees he could have possibly made. They probably think you are trying to clean up your credit and will pay anyone off to do it. The upside is it is not on your reports (yet). Watch out for a BS entry from the collector. Sofa King
