Saturday, December 02, 2000 - 09:23 am I lived with a group of guys while in college and unfortunatley the cable and gas bills were in my name. I ended up moving out of the house, but the last months bills were still in my name and never got paid on-time. About 2 years later I found 2 collection accounts for these items on my credit report. I immediatley paid them and tried explaining the situation to the collection company but it did no good. These collections are dated in 1996. Do I have any recourse to get these removed or do I have to wait until 2003 when they come off? Any insight would be helpful. Thanks!
Saturday, December 02, 2000 - 12:02 pm You had a lot of chances to get them removed BEFORE you paid. Now that you have paid the collection companies don't have much incentive to work with you.
Let this be a lesson to you that if the bills are in your name ensure that they are paid yourself! Sorry to hear that it's affecting your credit.
Sunday, December 03, 2000 - 08:30 am Is there any information on the report regarding the collections that is incorrect? Make sure that it is reported accurately. If there is inaccurate information, dispute it with the credit bureaus and the whole entry might get removed. Someone else may have some other ideas here other than stating the lessons you have surely already learned such as shylock has offered above.
